AEE - Institute for Sustainable Technologies (AEE INTEC) was founded in 1988 and is today one of the leading European institutes of applied research in renewable energy and resource efficiency. In the three target group areas "Buildings", "Cities & Grids" and "Industrial Systems" as well as three technological working groups "Renewable Energies", "Thermal Storage" and "Water and Process Technologies", the R&D projects carried out range from basic research projects to the implementation of demonstration plants.
The SHIP Plants Database by AEE INTEC documents implementations of Solar Heat in Industrial Processes (SHIP) worldwide. It demonstrates its feasibility and viability across various applications, industrial sectors and countries. The SHIP Plants Database continuously tracks new systems, provides georeferenced information, and presents key performance indicators of SHIP plants.
AEE INTEC regularly collects and manages this information, allowing solar companies to add and maintain their systems. Plausibility and verification checks are conducted to ensure data accuracy. The database serves multiple stakeholders:
• Solar Companies: Register plants and use the database as a reference for best practice examples.
• Policy Makers and Stakeholders: Access up-to-date data on SHIP plants worldwide.
• Industry Clients: Filter by industry sector or region to find relevant best practice examples.
Collaborations
AEE INTEC collaborates with Solar Payback, a platform documenting solar companies that deliver turnkey systems to industrial clients. Both sources are consolidated in the annual IEA SHC Solar Heat Worldwide statistics. The SHIP Plants Database was established under the framework of IEA SHC Tasks 49 and 64 on Solar Process Heat.
